The process of helping people and communities recover from the bushfires – and other natural disasters – continues long after the immediate impact has been felt and long after rolling media coverage has stopped.
Catholic Social Services Australia Ltd, on behalf of other members of the Catholic Emergency Relief Australia collaboration, will accept donations that will allow people to support the work of Catholic agencies responding to the bushfire crisis. CSSA is the national network of community-based Catholic organisations providing social services to and advocacy for those most in need.
The money received will be used for vital recovery work and supporting services to affected people and communities. Catholic parishes, schools, agencies and ministries will be able to apply for funding for specific purposes that will support the bushfire recovery process, which will take years.
We are very grateful to the people, groups and organisations that have provided financial support to Catholic Emergency Relief Australia. Once a total of $100,000 has been raised, a grants application process will open, allowing Catholic ministries to seek funding from CERA to help in the ongoing journey of recovery. The applications will be considered by the CERA Advisory Council, chaired by Susan Pascoe AM, and the allocation of grants will be published on the CERA website.
Catholic Social Services Australia Ltd is a deductible gift recipient, meaning donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.
The CERA website will regularly post updates on how the funding from donations is helping individuals and communities.
Should more money be donated than we need for the current bushfire recovery response, in keeping with the purpose of Catholic Emergency Relief Australia, we will apply that money to other disaster recovery activities in Australia.
